BabyStory is a free baby care logging app operated by Nerdens. This page explains how to delete your BabyStory account, exactly what is deleted and what is kept, and how to request deletion if you can no longer open the app.
1. Delete your account inside the app
Account deletion is available to every user directly in the app. It takes about 30 seconds.
- Open BabyStory and sign in with the account you want to delete.
- Tap the Settings tab — the gear icon at the bottom right.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.
- Read the confirmation dialog, then tap Delete Account again to confirm.
- If you signed in a while ago, the app asks you to confirm your password for security. Enter it and the deletion finishes.
Deletion runs immediately. When it is done you are signed out and returned to the login screen. The deletion is permanent and cannot be undone — we cannot restore an account, a baby record, or a photo after this point.
2. What is deleted and what is kept
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your login account — email address and password credential held by Firebase Authentication | Deleted |
| Your profile — display name, profile image, sign-up date | Deleted |
| Babies you are the admin (owner) of — baby profile, name, date of birth, profile photo | Deleted for you and for every family member |
| All care records inside a baby you own — feeding, bottle, solid food, pumping, diaper, sleep, bath, temperature, medicine, memos | Deleted |
| All photos inside a baby you own — both the photo entries and the underlying image files in cloud storage | Deleted |
| Family member records (memberships) of a baby you own | Deleted |
| Your membership of a baby someone else owns | Deleted — your access ends |
| A baby someone else owns, and its care records and photos — including entries and photos you added to it | Kept. That record belongs to the family member who owns it and who keeps using it; only your membership is removed. |
| Anything you or a family member already exported, downloaded, or saved to a personal device | Kept — outside our control |
If you want content you contributed to someone else's shared baby removed as well, ask the owner of that baby to delete it, or include the request in an email to us — see section 3.
3. If you cannot open the app
If you have lost access to your device or cannot sign in, email us and we will delete the account for you:
Please:
- Send the email from the address registered to the account — we verify the request comes from that address before acting on it;
- Use the subject "Account deletion request";
- Tell us if you also want records or photos you contributed to a baby owned by another family member removed.
We do not ask for your password, and we will never ask for it.
4. Timing and retention
- In-app deletion is immediate. Your account, profile, and the data listed above are removed as soon as the confirmation completes.
- Email requests are processed without undue delay and in any event within 30 days of us verifying the request — usually much sooner.
- Deleted items are not recoverable by you or by us.
- Backups held by our cloud provider (Google Firebase) are overwritten on a rolling basis, so any residual copy in a backup disappears as that rotation completes. Backups are never used to restore a deleted account.
- We retain nothing after deletion except where a law requires us to keep it.
This matches section 7 ("How long we keep your data") of our Privacy Policy.
5. Alternatives to deleting your account
You may not need to delete your whole account:
- Leave a shared baby. If you were invited to someone else's baby record, you can leave it — this ends your access without deleting your account.
- Delete individual items. You can delete a single care record, a single photo, or an entire baby record from inside the app.
- Sign out. Signing out on a device leaves your data untouched.
